I am SO grateful that Barack Obama was my generation’s president. I am proud that my president was black. I am proud that my president handled antagonism and outright hostility with aplomb, dignity, and grace. The Obama family brought us no scandals – they were wholesome and upright and represented America with such elegance that I know many leaders to come will emulate. When my kids ask my who my president was, I’ll tell them about the goofy, kind, and level-headed man who stood up for human rights, equality, and love.

And that’s what we should hold on to.
