how is this not illegal
Fun fact- your employer must be providing actual training for you during an unpaid internship. If you are doing the work of a paid position, it is not legal. The actual language is something like “the employer must provide a training environment and gain no benefit or advantage from the intern. ”
don’t take exploitative internships! !!!!!!
Even though they are providing some real life training there should be some compensation. Less well off students have to prioritize between taking a summer job that pays but doesn’t provide relevant experience or an unpaid position that provides great experience. This system allows for better off students to take advantage of great opportunities while others are left in the dust.
